ShipStation Live Rates for WooCommerce

Description

ShipStation negotiates discounted rates with 100+ carriers. The official ShipStation plugin for WooCommerce cannot show those rates at checkout. ShipStation’s own Checkout Rates feature covers Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, and Wix. WooCommerce is not on the list. So your checkout falls back to flat-rate tables, and flat-rate tables leak money on every heavy or long-distance order.

The Baymard Institute found that 48% of shoppers abandon their cart when shipping costs come in higher than expected. Without live ShipStation checkout rates, you are guessing what shipping will cost – and either eating the difference or losing the sale.

1TeamSoftware built ShipStation Live Rates for WooCommerce to close that gap. Real carrier quotes on your cart and checkout pages, using the negotiated rates you already pay for inside ShipStation. Buyers pay what shipping actually costs. You stop subsidizing it.

Every 1TeamSoftware shipping plugin ships with full HPOS and Blocks checkout support, and this one is no exception. It also connects to a wider ecosystem of shipping, fulfillment, and marketplace tools – detailed below.

The best part? Live ShipStation rates at cart and checkout, rate caching, insurance, and signature support are completely FREE. Upgrade to PRO anytime for label printing, two-way order sync, returns, bulk PDF labels, automatic tracking emails, and multivendor origin support.

Already on ShipStation Gold or higher? The plugin uses the carriers and negotiated rates already inside your account. Since May 19, 2025, ShipStation restricts API access to a paid Gold subscription. If you are on a lower tier, the API will not return rates. Check shipstation.com for current plan details. Not on Gold yet? See our ShipEngine plugin instead – it works without a ShipStation subscription.

Why Store Owners Choose 1TeamSoftware

  • ShipStation live rates at checkout – Real carrier quotes appear as soon as the buyer’s address is entered, on the pages you choose
  • Your negotiated ShipStation rates – Uses the carrier pricing already inside your account, including USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL
  • 100+ carriers – Any carrier connected to your ShipStation dashboard, available the moment you paste your API key
  • API v1 and v2 support (PRO) – Order sync and rate quoting via the ShipStation REST API, with PRO unlocking the v2 endpoints for labels, tracking, and insurance
  • Blocks checkout and HPOS – Works on both classic and Blocks-based WooCommerce checkout, with full High-Performance Order Storage support
  • Multivendor origin (PRO) – Per-vendor rates and labels for Dokan, WCFM, MultiVendorX, and YITH

How We Compare

The official ShipStation plugin for WooCommerce imports orders and prints labels but cannot show live rates at checkout. This plugin shows live rates at checkout for free, plus free insurance and signature support. PRO adds dimension-based box packing, return labels, and multivendor origin support on top.

A Connected Shipping Ecosystem

We have been building WooCommerce shipping plugins since 2016, and thousands of stores rely on them across multiple carrier integrations. This ShipStation WooCommerce plugin is one piece of a larger suite, built by the same team to work together:

A single-purpose rate plugin cannot match this, and neither can the official extension.

Stop Losing Money on Flat-Rate Shipping

Charge a flat $10 for shipping and the actual carrier cost comes in at $24. You eat $14. Do that on 100 orders a month and you have lost $1,400. Run the same math for a year and the leak becomes hard to ignore.

The reverse is just as bad. Charge $20 flat on a light order that costs $7 to ship, and you are overcharging the buyer – which costs you conversions on the orders you would have won on price.

ShipStation live rates at checkout solve both sides. Heavy orders cost more. Light orders cost less. Long-distance shipments price correctly. Dense local deliveries price correctly. The buyer pays what the carrier charges, plus whatever margin you configure.

Real Carrier Quotes, Not Estimates

Most WooCommerce shipping plugins estimate based on weight bands or generic tables. 1TeamSoftware pulls the actual negotiated rate from your ShipStation account for the exact origin, destination, weight, and dimensions of the order. Buyers see what ShipStation would charge you, plus any fixed fee or percentage markup you apply. No surprises on either side of the transaction.

Live Rates at Cart and Checkout

Every cart gets a real quote based on weight, destination, and your negotiated ShipStation rates:

  • Show rates on the cart page, checkout, or both – your choice
  • Enable rates globally or per shipping zone
  • Cap how many carrier options appear at checkout
  • Set a min and max rate to protect your margin
  • Group items into one parcel (PRO) or quote per product for the cheapest rate
  • Add a fixed fee or percentage markup to rates
  • Include insurance and request-signature services
  • Cache recent quotes so a busy checkout stays fast

Which Carriers Can I Show at Checkout?

Any carrier connected to your ShipStation account. The most common are:

  • USPS – Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, Ground Advantage, Media Mail
  • UPS – Ground, Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air, Worldwide services
  • FedEx – Express, Ground, Home Delivery, Freight
  • DHL – Express, eCommerce, Parcel
  • 100+ regional and international carriers – GLS, Evri, Australia Post, Canada Post, Royal Mail, Purolator, and more

You choose which carriers and services appear at checkout, per shipping zone. Whitelist the services you actually sell, hide the rest.

Order Sync with Your ShipStation Account

PRO connects WooCommerce to your ShipStation dashboard through a two-way ShipStation WooCommerce integration powered by the ShipStation API (v1). Order sync replaces the manual copy-paste that most ShipStation for WooCommerce workflows still rely on.

When you buy a label inside WooCommerce, the order is pushed into ShipStation so your dashboard reflects the same fulfillment state. When you process orders inside ShipStation instead – through automations, routing rules, or batch workflows – the tracking number and shipment status flow back into WooCommerce automatically.

One source of truth. No copying and pasting tracking numbers. No marking orders complete in two places.

Built for Modern WooCommerce

  • Blocks checkout – Full support for the WooCommerce Blocks-based checkout experience
  • Classic checkout – Works on the legacy shortcode checkout unchanged
  • HPOS (High-Performance Order Storage) – Compatible with WooCommerce’s modern order storage
  • PHP 7.3 through 8.3+ – Broad host compatibility
  • WordPress 5.6 through 7.0 – Tested across the supported range
  • No coding required – Configure everything from WooCommerce shipping settings

How It Works

  1. Connect – Paste your ShipStation API key
  2. Choose – Pick the carriers and services to show, and set any rate rules
  3. Go live – Buyers see real ShipStation rates at checkout

Need support?

1TeamSoftware specializes in WooCommerce shipping. We have built carrier integrations, marketplace shipping tools, and custom fulfillment workflows since 2016.

If you need help configuring this plugin, want a custom shipping integration, or have a complex rate-rule scenario our settings do not cover – contact us. We likely already solved it for another store, or can build it for yours.

PRO users get priority support with direct access to our development team. We respond fast, we know the codebase inside out, and we ship fixes.

Free users get above-average support too, but please use our contact form rather than the WordPress.org support forum. The forum makes it difficult to troubleshoot shipping issues (you cannot safely share API keys, order numbers, or store URLs there) and our team can help you much faster through direct contact.

FAQ

Do I need a paid ShipStation plan?

Yes. Since May 19, 2025, ShipStation restricts API access to a paid Gold subscription. The plugin is free, but it cannot return rates without API access, so verify your ShipStation tier first. Check shipstation.com for current plan pricing.

Which carriers are supported?

Any carrier connected to your ShipStation account – typically USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and 100+ more. You choose which carriers to enable at checkout.

What’s the difference between API v1 and v2?

API v1 handles order sync: it pushes WooCommerce orders into your ShipStation dashboard when you create a label, and imports tracking plus status back into WooCommerce. API v2 handles carrier insurance and signature confirmation. Need an API key? See our ShipStation API key guide.

How is this different from the official ShipStation plugin?

The official ShipStation for WooCommerce extension imports orders and prints labels, but it cannot show live rates at checkout. The 1TeamSoftware WooCommerce ShipStation plugin adds real carrier quotes at cart and checkout, plus box packing, bulk PDF labels, return labels, and multivendor origin support. See our ShipStation vs Shippo vs EasyPost comparison for a deeper look at the options.

Is this an alternative to the official ShipStation plugin?

Yes. This WooCommerce ShipStation plugin does everything the official extension does for labels and order import, and adds live rates at checkout. You can switch from the official plugin without losing your ShipStation workflow. See our best ShipStation alternatives guide for the full breakdown.

Does this work like ShipStation’s Checkout Rates feature?

ShipStation’s own Checkout Rates feature covers Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, and Wix, but not WooCommerce. 1TeamSoftware fills that gap – real ShipStation checkout rates on WooCommerce, using the negotiated carrier pricing already in your account.

Does it work with the WooCommerce Blocks checkout?

Yes. Both the classic and the Blocks-based WooCommerce checkout are supported, along with full HPOS (High-Performance Order Storage) compatibility.

Will live rates slow down my checkout?

No. Recent rates are cached and reused, and requests run asynchronously, so a busy checkout stays fast.

Can I show only certain carriers?

Yes. Per-zone carrier and service selection lets you whitelist the carriers and services you actually sell, and cap how many options appear at checkout.

What carriers can I show at checkout?

Any carrier connected to your ShipStation account. USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL are the most common, but your negotiated rates and services from all connected carriers appear automatically. You choose which carrier services to display at checkout, per shipping zone.

Does it support multivendor marketplaces?

PRO supports per-vendor origin rates and labels for Dokan, WCFM, MultiVendorX, and YITH.

Is there a PRO version?

Yes. ShipStation Shipping PRO adds one-click and bulk label printing, API v1 order sync, return labels, automatic tracking emails, box packing, and multivendor support. The free version already handles live rates, insurance, and signature at checkout. PRO adds the fulfillment side on top. See our ShipStation pros and cons for a detailed breakdown.

How do I get started?

Install the free plugin, paste your ShipStation API key, and choose which carriers and services to show. Our step-by-step setup guide walks through the whole process.

What happens if ShipStation is slow or down?

ShipStation live rates are cached for speed, so a brief slowdown does not block checkout. Recent quotes are reused, and if the API is completely unreachable, the plugin falls back gracefully instead of hanging the cart.

Can I use this with my existing ShipStation workflow?

Yes. This ShipStation WooCommerce plugin runs alongside your existing ShipStation dashboard. API v1 sync pushes orders from WooCommerce into ShipStation when you create a label, and imports tracking back. Your automations, routing rules, and fulfillment workflows in ShipStation stay exactly as they are.

Does it work with PayPal, Stripe, or other payment gateways?

Yes. Shipping rates are calculated independently of the payment gateway. The plugin works with PayPal, Stripe, WooCommerce Payments, and any other WooCommerce-compatible gateway.

This plugin has worked well for us for a couple of years now integrating Woocommerce with ShipStation. Support has been responsive and great to deal with the couple of times we’ve needed to reach out to them.

The 1TeamSoftware staff has issues comprehending support communication. They do not seem to read through the messages and digest the content. It often seems like a different person responds to each response. They request items that are already provided in the communication thread or provide canned responses without having read the latest message. They are quick to blame every issue on server settings, even when live monitoring of the server reveals problems with paths coded into their plugin(s). After weeks of back-and-forth messages, regularly having to repeat previously stated items, I was told they offer a $99.00 p/hr “specialist” to manually test the site, but without any guarantee of a solution. They do not offer an automatic “staging” or development license, so if you are a competent website manager, developer, or business owner, you will need to purchase an extra license. Considering we may require a staging server only a few times per year, this is an exorbitant expense, either doubling the cost of a single license or adding a license to one of their multi-site plans. This plugin works, but it slows the site down and has recurring issues with admin UI layouts. For a while, we were unable to see or edit specific settings because the data entry fields were condensed and could not be expanded. They never took responsibility, claiming instead that a separate plugin or theme issue was the cause, even though nothing had changed. The issue miraculously corrected itself a few updates later. There is too much extra “junk” on the settings pages. Condense it! Give us an “X” to make it go away. General settings is the worst, but this is on every setting tab. Why?: Real-time ShipStation shipping rates, shipping label creation and tracking of the shipments Do you have any questions or requests? Do you like our plugin and can recommend to others? A very frustrating product and support team to deal with. Unresolved and ongoing issues over many months.

Completely inaccurate shipping rates. We have already lost over $1000 by not checking the rates as quoted by this plugin vs. those charged by ShipStation. Over 99% of the rates for 2nd Day, Next Day, and 3 Day Select are under-quoted and ranges between $1 to $15. Contacted tech support, and after providing them with all the logs and screenshots, they still wanted an admin account on our site PLUS our ShipStation credentials. No thank you.

Finally we have live rates from Shipstation! This plugin saved us multiple other plugins and simplified our shipping pricing. My only regret is that we have not found this plugin earlier. Their customer support was responsive and followed through every problem until it was resolved. Including taking an issue with Shipstation themselves and opening a ticket on our behalf with them. Can’t recommend them enough!

You can’t get a refund for some reason if it doesn’t work. Read this refund policy before you decide to give a try to the PRO version and be absolutely certain before paying because for some reason if it doesn’t work like it did in our case- they are not considerate on refund. Last but not the least, I wasted 10+ hours in trying to make it work but it doesn’t for our situation. REFUND ELIGIBILITY You are eligible for a refund, if within 30 days of your purchase you experience issues that we are not be able to solve and your situation matches one of the following criteria: Product has not been downloaded Product is not as described or it does not work the way it should * Unresolvable compatibility issues * Please note that only PRO features that are not marked as BETA can be considered. So as you can see one has to download the PRO to see if it’s going to work or not, isn’t it. That’s it… the buck stops there from the refund policy and no refund regardless of the 2nd condition. Definitely a CONVOLUTED REFUND policy that’s in the seller’s favor. So what didn’t work: support team is not quick in responding, they work far east time zones and there’s a significant delay in response, while thorough in their response but I don’t like waiting a day to get the response This plugin definitely doesn’t support duplicating of a service, meaning, if you want to use FedEx Ground or Home Delivery twice then forget it, there’s no way to add it more than once. Based on our business situation we need most service more than once and this plugin sucks from that perspective. Support team suggested zone usage as an alternative to issue #2. Really? I’m using shipping plugin from pluginhive for 7 years and I’m not new to this type of plugin. It was the dumbest suggestion that would not work so if you are new to shipping plugin then go with pluginhive because they have much more superior tool than this one. The only reason to try this plugin was due to ShipStation integration which we were planning to use in future

I have been testing out several different plugins with most free versions being completely unfunctional, or ones that would force way too many unnecessary rate options. This by far has been the best one. Not only is it completely functional at the ‘free’ level, you still have the ability to control many necessary options without the need to upgrade. So, thank you for this! I do plan on upgrading to get the extra features that this app supports, but I will try it out for a few months and just make sure everything runs smooth for a while first. So far so good though. Thank you!
